2. Curriculum Vitae2.1. Employment History
- July 1999-: Employed by a university
research centre, in electrical/computer engineering
disciplines.
- Jan 1997- July 1998: Worked as an engineer for the
centre on a number of projects. The two principle areas were:
- Scheduling in manufacturing processes. This involved work in
optimisation techniques, discrete-event simulation and C++
programming.
- Induction Machine Control. This was the work that led up to
the start of my masters degree project. The work was centred
around logic design using EPLDs.
- 1995-: Part time university teaching. The subjects
taught have been:
- Laboratory demonstration and marking for first-year
electronics subjects.
- Tutoring and marking for the third-year digital signal
processing course.
- Tutoring and laboratory demonstration for the second-year
digital logic and microprocessor systems course.
- 1993-1996: While studying as an undergraduate,
I worked during the vacation periods, for nominally 12 weeks each
year. The jobs involved:
- Testing and component-level repair of electronic protection
devices for the mining industry. It also included some PCB
design, and construction of test systems.
- Hardware and software development for embedded systems based
on the intel 80186 and 8x51 microcontrollers.
2.2. Education
- 1998-: Masters in Engineering by Research in
Electrical Engineering. The research subject in the control of
induction machines. The focus is on developing a digital hardware
implementation of a current controller. The following aspects have
been addressed:
- Controller design and simulation.
- Parameter estimation.
- EPLD design of the controller hardware, including a microcoded
processor
- Software implementation of the controller using a Texas
Instruments TMS320C31 DSP.
- Supporting software, including a microcode compiler and data
logging facilities in C++.
- 1993-1996 Bachelor of Engineering in Computer
Engineering. On completion, I graduated with first-class honours
and a University Medal. Weighted average mark
across the course was 95%.
- -1992: I completed High School with a TER
(Tertiary Entrance Rank) of 99.95. This is a percentile rank of
position in the NSW state canditature of 60,000 students.
2.3. Awards
- 1997: Awarded a University Medal.
- 1996: Placed first in the IEEE Region 10 (Asia-Pacific)
undergraduate student paper contest.
- 1993: Awarded the Australian Student's Prize. (One of
500 awarded annually in Australia).
- 1992: Won a silver medal at the 1992 International
Olympiad in Informatics (computer programming contest for high
school students) in Bonn, Germany. I was placed first in Australia
in the selection process.
